Crocodile

The crocodiles in St Lucia’s iSimangaliso Wetland Park are part of one of the largest Nile crocodile populations in South Africa! These ancient reptiles can grow up to 5 meters (16 feet) long and are known to bask along the banks of Lake St Lucia. They play a vital role in the park’s ecosystem, helping to keep the balance between predator and prey in this UNESCO World Heritage Site. You might just spot one soaking up the sun or gliding through the waters on your next visit!

Cape Buffalo

The Cape Buffalo, part of the "Big Five," roams the iSimangaliso Wetland Park in St. Lucia in herds of up to several hundred! These social animals are vital for the ecosystem, shaping vegetation and providing food for other wildlife. Despite their size and strength, they are surprisingly cautious around predators, making them intriguing to observe!

Leopard

In iSimangaliso Wetland Park, leopards are one of the most elusive and captivating residents. Thriving in diverse habitats, these magnificent big cats are known for their striking rosette-patterned coats and stealthy nature. Visitors may catch a glimpse of a leopard lounging in trees or prowling through the underbrush, making any encounter with these majestic creatures an unforgettable highlight of the park.

As 2024 draws to a close, we pause to reflect on the year gone by.
Here at Sandy Place, we feel truly blessed to have had you as our guests throughout this year. Together, we’ve shared many wonderful moments, and faced some challenges, too. It's always bittersweet when we say goodbye to friends, watching as they return to their lives outside the peaceful sanctuary of our Resort, back to the daily grind. But just as eagerly, we await the arrival of new friends, ready to write the next chapter in the Sandy Place story of friendship.

We deeply value every guest, member, and owner who visits our Resort and are truly grateful for how far we've come.

As we enter the holiday season, we reflect on the true spirit of Christmas.

From all of us here at Sandy Place, we wish you a joyful Christmas, happy holidays, and a prosperous 2025. We can’t wait to welcome you back soon!
